Stunning antique French or Italian (?) relic from the very late 1700's - early 1800's. This is an original piece purchased in France but it might actually be Italian. Beautifully done and I can only imagine how it looked when it was new. Here we have a beautiful relic inside a metal frame. The glass is long gone but the relic remains. The black metal frame shows signs of it's age but that is to be expected as it is 200+ years old. The relic itself is a cloth cross over a green tapestry. The cross is outlined in gilt paper and so is the inner portion of the frame. There are also gilt stars on the ends of the cross. At one time there was probably something underneath the cross but that is long gone. The back is black papered board and held in place with the original pins. There is a red ribbon and two wax seals on either side. On the top there is metal tube where at one time I am sure a metal ring sat to hang this piece on the wall.
This piece is really is in good condition given it's age. This could be the perfect addition to any collection or the beginning of a new one. This religious relic measures 3.5" x 4.75" and it is meant to be hung on the wall. A lovely piece of history.
